The Shins es una banda estadounidense de Rock Alternativo e Indie Rock formada en 1997 en Albuquerque, Nuevo México por el compositor, guitarrista y letrista James Mercer, el tecladista Marty Crandall, el baterista Jesse Sandoval, y el bajista Dave Hernández, bajo el sello discográfico Sub Pop. Antes de que la banda fuera llamada "The Shins", se llamaban "Flake", luego "Flake Music". Lanzaron un álbum con el nombre Flake Music, después dejaron la banda y los miembros formaron The Shins.
