The sword es una banda de metal pesado de Austin, Texas. La banda se formó en 2003 en Austin, Texas por JD Cronise. Cronise, guitarrista y vocalista que habia tocado con Los Those Peabodys, buscaron a cabo una serie de músicos hasta que finalmente el montaje de la banda por completo con ritmo guitarrista Kyle Shutt, Bryan bajista y el baterista Richie Trivett Wingo.
